Welcome to the Lu Lab!

We work in the highly multidisciplinary field of bioelectronics at the George Washington University. Our research focuses have been on (1) studying, understanding, and exploiting unusual soft materials, such as nanomaterials, polymers, and organic/inorganic semiconductors; (2) developing new fabrication, processing, and engineering approaches for patterning those materials and controlling their electrical, mechanical, and optical responses. The current research goal is to combine fundamental material research with electrical engineering efforts to create advanced conformal electronics and optoelectronics systems, with an emphasis on bio-inspired, biomimetic, and bio-integrated technologies to facilitate personalized medicine design and accurate disease diagnosis. Our research is currently supported by NIH, NSF, and GW.

Openings

We have openings for 2 PhD students (starting Spring 2026 and later) and 1-2 postdoctoral researchers (available immediately)! Highly motivated applicants with previous experience in one of the following areas (required): (1) Micro or nanofabrication; (2) Bioelectronics; (3) Circuit designs for sensors/actuators are encouraged to contact Prof. Lu by email (luyaolu@gwu.edu) to discuss these opportunities. Please include your CV containing your GPA, the contact information for three references, IELTS or TOEFL scores (for international PhD applicants), and a complete list of publications, if applicable. We are also looking for highly passionate, talented, collaborative, and self-motivated undergraduate research assistants and master students to join us at GW. Please note that due to the high volume of emails, I may not be able to reply to every inquiry.
